VISITA DO DR KEVIN HODGES (UNIVERSITY OF READING) AO DEPARTAMENTO DE METEOROLOGIA DA UFRJ
No dia 31 de janeiro de 2019 às 13h, receberemos a visita do Dr. Kevin Hodges (http://www.met.reading.ac.uk/userpages/sgshoges.php) no Departamento de Meteorologia da UFRJ, onde ele ministrará, no auditório PANGEA, a palestra de título: “Feature Based Analysis of Atmospheric and Ocean eddies”
Todos estão convidados!
Abstract:
Feature based analysis of atmospheric and ocean eddies has become a useful analysis tool in providing insights into the distribution, properties and dynamics of such features, how well they are represented in reanalyses, climate models and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP)
and how they may change in the future. Typically methods have been developed that are specific to particular types of feature, however, at least for eddies a general approach can be used. In this talk the general approach used by TRACK will be briefly described and the application to different types of eddies demonstrated in applications for climate and NWP, including extra-tropical and tropical cyclones, mesocyclones and ocean eddies. The feature based analysis can be extended to eddy centered composites to diagnose system structure and how the distribution and properties of eddies varies with different large scale modes of variability, e.g. ENSO, NAO etc.
